Classifications, Characteristics and Typical Applications of Yadong Polyether Polyol Products

Polyether polyol is one of the most fundamental polyol raw materials for polyurethane industry. Based on functional initiator, molecular weight, hydroxyl value and target curing system, Hebei Yadong Chemical Group sorts its polyether products into five major technical categories, each with distinct structural characteristics, processing window and end-use boundary. This classification logic helps formulators quickly match proper grades according to product specifications and production equipment.

The first category is rigid foam polyether polyol. Its core feature is high functionality and high hydroxyl value. After crosslinking with MDI or polymeric MDI, the cured foam forms dense closed-cell structure, which suppresses heat conduction effectively. Key performance focuses on thermal conductivity, dimensional stability and compressive strength. Typical applications include exterior wall insulation sandwich panels, refrigerator cabinet foaming, cold storage insulation, pipeline thermal protection and PU imitation wood decorative parts.

The second category is flexible foam polyether polyol. It adopts glycerin-based triether structure with relatively low hydroxyl value and high molecular weight. The polymerization quality control targets low unsaturation and low volatile organics. The foam exhibits low density, good resilience and soft touch. It is widely used for mattress slabstock foam, sofa cushion, packaging buffer foam and general-purpose packing foam.

The third category is high resilience foam polyether polyol. Terminal EO capping is the core technical feature. Primary hydroxyl groups greatly accelerate reaction rate under cold-cure condition, eliminating long heating curing process. The finished foam has excellent ILD curve, low hysteresis loss and outstanding fatigue resistance. Major markets are automotive seat foams, headrest, armrest, bicycle saddle and high-grade office chair cushion.

The fourth category is CASE polyether polyol for coating, adhesive, sealant and elastomer. Its design emphasizes narrow molecular distribution, low monohydroxy impurity, stable hydrolysis resistance and controllable reactivity. It does not pursue high foaming ratio, but focuses on mechanical property balance after curing. It is applied for solvent-free protective coating, PU structural adhesive, road joint sealant, roller elastomer, casting polyurethane parts and waterproof membrane base material.

The fifth category covers functional special polyether, including pre-blended polyols and coal mining safety polyether polyol. Blended polyols integrate multiple polyether components in fixed proportion, simplifying batching and stabilizing foaming reproducibility. Mining safety polyether is specially engineered for underground grouting reinforcement and water shutoff, with adjustable gel time, low exotherm, good permeability and qualified flame retardant property to satisfy underground safety standards.

Yadong’s classification system is not only for product catalog display. The R&D and QC teams use this framework to set independent test standards, storage requirements and technical service schemes for each category. Meanwhile, the team continuously collects feedback from different downstream processes to optimize catalyst system, neutralization and post-treatment process, expanding the applicable boundary of each polyether series.
